This trail is snow bound from November to late May or early June. Be on the lookout for mountain bikers on the trail. They are supposed to yield to hikers.

Description

Dry Fir Trail is a 3 mile trail that connects hikers from Sherar Burn Road across from Veda Lake Trailhead, to the Mud Creek drainage south of Trillium Lake on Forest Road 2656-903. The Dry Fir Trail was designed for mountain bikes, but is hiker-friendly, since it does not get significant use.

Hikers can start at either trailhead. The downhill route would start off Sherar Burn Road. The trail begins in a partial cut harvest unit and then switchbacks through forest, into a slight drainage and then continues at a steady pace down to the trailhead which is in a harvest unit. The grade on the trail is fairly consistent and less than 7 percent, so a return route on the same trail is possible.

Flora & Fauna

This area is in high elevation Cascade forest with mountain hemlock, silver and noble fir prominent. Huckleberries abound in the fall in the partial harvest area. Bear grass are blooming in the summer.
