Description

The Pyramid Trail is a great hike with switchbacks to the top of South Mountain. It is very popular on the weekends. Start early so you can beat the heat and bring water. This climb will get your heart in the cardio zone for a good workout!

The trail is narrow so you'll be moving off trail when you encounter other hikers and runners. From the top of the ridge you can see Mesa, the Superstitions and the Gila Indian Reservation. I generally hike these trails for exercise as do many other hikers here. It's close enough to hike from your home in Awatukee. Once on top, the trail rolls up and down and connects with the National Trail and you can choose to loop back down the Telegraph Trail or do a return trip back the way you came.

Flora & Fauna

Desert cactus. Did not see any animals but we did see birds.

Always a workout. Hot temp of 86 but had a breeze. Hazy, smoky views looking South but could see far distances. Love going down! 3.6mi — 2h 00m
