Need to Know

Although it had not rained for quite awhile (until today) the trail still had muddy spots and one area where the water was a foot deep.

Description

The Trail 2 loop is adequately marked and a pleasant route. The trail follows fire breaks and old dirt roads. They were rutted and uneven for the most part from tractor traffic and horses. The grass and weeds were not high but they were very thick part of the way. A portion of the trail along the south boundary is close to State Road 62. I prefer a feeling of solitude and did not enjoy this section.

Flora & Fauna

The preserve has some pine trees and hardwoods, mostly oak. There are open prairie areas with tall grass or palmettos. There are wetlands with typical vegetation. I saw a couple of hawks, sand hill cranes, and great white herons.

History & Background

The property has 2,344 acres and was purchased in 1995.
