Description

The length of the entire trail takes you from one trailhead to the other. The full trail length, however, is not the main objective for an outing here. As the name suggests, this is the route leading to Castle Rock, a geologic feature that earns the moniker, and has a reputation for providing spectacular panoramic views.

Conveniently located between both trailheads, whether you start at the north or south trailhead, Castle Rock is somewhat in the middle. The trail isn't very long, so it is entirely possible to make it from one trailhead to another in relative ease. Heading from north-south, you'll encounter a bit of a climb, but nothing too difficult or technical.

If you're opting for a south-north route, you'll get to take it easy, admire Big Bear Lake, and drop to the northern trailhead.
