Description

The trailhead at Bethesda starts near Georgetown Cupcake, after the Georgetown Branch Trail ends. The trail runs south towards the C Chesapeake and Ohio Canal Towpath. It crosses several highways with bridges and a few roads. After it crosses the bridge to the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal Towpath, it runs uninterrupted all the way into DC.

There is lots of shade on the trail and is often within sight of the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal Towpath, although they run on different paths. This trail is fully paved and can handle road bikes, the C&O is all natural surface.

It is often used on the nicer days for commuting and is especially crowded on the first nice days of spring.

There are a number of rest stops along the way.
