Overview

A short hike to a fine viewpoint over a glacial lake with Mount Cook towering above.

Description

Kea Point can be reached from either Mount Cook Village or more directly from the trailhead at White Horse Hill (described here).

The track heads gently uphill from the carpark through open country with fantastic views of Mount Sefton above. Bear right at the intersection with the trail from the village, and continue uphill past the Sealy Tarns Track junction. The trail climbs somewhat more steeply up to a low saddle, where the first views of Mount Cook can be had. Kea Point is a lookout perched over Mueller Lake, where you can marvel at phenomenal alpine scenery in all directions.
