Description

"Bear Trap Canyon is a spectacular drainage encompassing 6,000 acres in the Lee Metcalf Wilderness within the Madison Range. The Madison River, its headwaters in Yellowstone National Park, rages throughout the remote, roadless canyon for 9 miles, from Ennis Lake to the Madison River Bridge." -Outside Bozeman

The trail drops down to meet the river periodically throughout its length, offering opportunities to filter water.

Directions: From Bozeman, drive 9 miles west to Four Corners on Hwy. 191. Continue 20.7 miles west on Hwy. 84 to Bear Trap Road on the left. It is located by the Bear Trap recreational area sign, just before the bridge crossing of the Madison River. Turn left and drive on the gravel road 3.2 miles along the east of the river. The trailhead parking area is at the end of the road.
