Description

Park at the trailhead lot and begin your 1200' ascent of the mountainside. This trail is steep with little respite on the way up to Ptarmigan Mountain Trail junction.

Passing above the neighborhood, you keep going further back and up a series of steep hills. The surroundings vary from open sage fields to aspen groves, finally meeting up with Ptarmigan Mountain Trail after about two miles of leg-burning uphill. Take it all the way to the summit if you so wish, which is longer than you think (4.4 miles ~2600 more vert). There is a bench to take in the Gore Range views shortly after the junction, 0.5 miles, that is well worth the extra mileage.

Enjoy the biology lesson on the way up as the first mile is marked with placards of each plant species you pass!
