From the parking lot, immediately start hiking up hot, exposed singletrack. There are many switchbacks, but they're all easy to negotiate.

Once you've gained the ridge you're greeted by a commanding vista of the entire valley. Contour around and descend a few hundred feet before hitting Elk Park Road. From here, you can take the road up to Elk Park, or head downhill all the way to Steamboat Springs.
