Family Friendly Nice walk along the lake. There are multiple picnic spots.

Closed May 6-July 12 for elk calving.

Description

This trail is a pretty mellow and easy trail. There may be some fallen trees that cover the path but nothing to stop the hike. There are no stairs to help the climb, and the grade of the trail can be high. There is a fire watchtower on the top of the trail.

The trail also has a great view of Shadow Mountain Lake, and this is all around a great trail to hike with lots of wildlife to see. There are rusting remains at the tip of Heyward Point of a winch system that was once used to haul gas tanks from the water to a light beacon on the headland.

Flora & Fauna

You will find vast wildflowers featuring Rocky Mountain Columbine from July-September. Marmots are easy to spot, and moose, elk, and eagles if you're lucky!
