Need to Know
To get to Monkman Provincial Park from Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia (the nearest town), take BC 52 south for 9miles/14km to Murray River Forest Service Road. Go right onto Murray River FSR. This junction is well marked for Monkman PP. Follow Murray River FSR for 30miles/48km, into the park, to its campground and parking area. The trail system takes off from this parking area.
Description
Brooks Falls Overlook Spur leads to a viewpoint at the top of these falls, very close to the falls.
This spur is not well marked. To hike it, continue through Cascades Trail Camp from
Cascades Camp Trail. In the forest, this trail turns into Brooks Falls Overlook Spur. Stay on this forest path as it bends to the left, and arrives at rock slabs. Continue on the rock slabs towards the thundering of the falls, to arrive at the end of this spur. There is no marker to the spur end, so be careful and don't get too close to the edge.
From this overlook, one can see the falls go over the cliff, but can't see the whole drop. The rainbow from the falls' spray is beautiful, and the view of Monkman Creek far below is impressive.
Flora & Fauna
Primarily mixed conifer forest - lodgepole pines, spruce, and firs, with thick undergrowth. As the falls are approached, rock slabs take over, with sparse, short grass. Deer and bears live here.
