Need to Know

To get to Monkman Provincial Park from Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia (the nearest town), take BC 52 south for 9miles/14km to Murray River Forest Service Road. Go right onto Murray River FSR. This junction is well marked for Monkman PP. Follow Murray River FSR for 30miles/48km, into the park, to its campground and parking area. The trail system takes off from this parking area.

Description

Cascades Camp Trail is found at a well-marked trail junction, at the 12.7-mile mark along Monkman Lake Trail.

Cascades Camp Trail descends to Monkman Creek, where there is a great trail camp.

Initially in the forest, the trail breaks out onto the rock slabs after 0.2 miles, and passes Devils Creek Camp/Cascades Camp Connector on the left. Moore Falls/Cascades Camp Connector is then passed on the right. In the open, on the rock slabs, great views of the surrounding mountains take over (watch your step).

About 0.5 miles after leaving Monkman Lake Trail, there is a pile of rocks on the left that looks like it once held a signpost. This is the beginning of Monkman Falls Spur. Also, Monkman Falls can be seen in the distance to the left here.

The trail then re-enters the forest and soon arrives at the sprawling Cascades trail camp, where this trail ends.

Flora & Fauna

Forested sections of conifers - lodgepole pines, spruce, and firs, with thick undergrowth. Open areas of rock slabs and sparse, short grass. Deer and bears live here.

Among the rock slabs, the trail is tough to make out, so watch for orange diamonds (right), and follow them. Great views of the nearby mountains in this high, open area.
