Description
As shown in this description, Interlakes Trail starts at the campground, where
Lower Elk Lake Trail ends. From here, Interlakes Trail heads north along the shores of Lower Elk Lake as it passes the campground. The trail is flat here and there are great views of Mount Aosta. Several benches along the trail at the campground are great places to spend time when staying at the campground.
A grassy, open area along Lower Elk Lake is then passed as the trail leaves the campground behind. Then a tenth of a mile after Lower Elk Lake, a well marked trail junction is reached. Continuing straight here keeps one on Interlakes Trail and leads to the end of
Upper Elk Lake Trail after another quarter mile. Alternatively, turn left at this trail junction to visit Upper Elk Lake, hike to Petain Falls, or climb to the Lower Elk Lake viewpoint.
Interlakes Trail ends at the sharp U-turn near the end of
Upper Elk Lake Trail.
Flora & Fauna
Conifer forest. Additionally, a grassy meadow along Lower Elk Lake in one place.
