Section Of
Need to Know
If you're traveling SOBO, it's roughly 32 miles from Crayfish Creek Campsite to Dalton Highlands Campsite. There isn't anywhere (along this stretch) where camping is permitted.
Description
From Highway 411, the trail follows Highway 76, then turns onto Old Federal Road. It follows this to Dennis Mill Road, then turns right onto Dennis Mill Road. Follow Dennis Mill Road to the Dennis Mill Trailhead. Here, the trail re-enters the National Forest, and gets away from road-hiking. The trail travels by some campsites with nice little streams to cool down in.
Eventually, the trail climbs up Forest Road 3A, then turns right onto Forest Road 10. It follows Forest Service Road 10 (or Rock Creek Trail) for a ways. The trail follows Bakers Branch for awhile, but then winds its way up to Route 2. This section follows Route 2 (for a short ways), then ends just 0.2 miles west of the
Cohutta Overlook.
