Description

Akamina Pass trail is typically used to access other trails that lead to Wall Lake and Forum Lake. The well marked Akamina Pass Trail trailhead is found near Cameron Lake along the Akamina Parkway in Waterton National Park.

Akamina Pass Trail begins in the burn area of the 2017 Kenow Wildfire and travels in the burn area for its entire length. With the taller vegetation cleared out by the burn, there are good views of the surrounding rugged mountains. Thick low vegetation covers the hillsides everywhere as part of the burn recovery process. Wildflowers abound. The trail climbs gently to Akamina Pass, a low pass on the Great Divide, reaching the pass at about the 0.8 mile mark.

Descending gradually from the pass, Forum Lake Trail is pass on the left/south at the 1.4 mile mark. Continuing on the trail now follows Akamina Creek downstream. The trail to Wall Lake- Wall Lake Trail, is passed on the left at the 1.6 mile mark.

Continuing to follow Akamina Creek, Akamina Pass Trail ends after a total of 2.1 miles, as the trail itself then continues on as Festubert Mountain Route.

Flora & Fauna

Thick new, bright green low vegetation that is part of the natural recovery cycle from a wildfire, in this case the 2017 Kenow Wildfire. Wildflowers. Bears live here.
