Ridge to Rivers adopted the main Cartwright Ridge Trail in 2021 and with it came this trail, a newly-improved trail alignment to the ridge from the Hidden Springs neighborhood.

Barn Owl is smooth and well-graded, which makes for a good experience going up or down from the ridge. From the top, the trail start is well-signed. The trail itself is hand-built singletrack and winds down the hill. There are a couple of hairpins on the way down.

The bottom of the trail comes out on Hidden Springs Drive, right across the street from an access point to the Hidden Springs neighborhood greenbelt, which means you can get to the trailhead at the foot of Red Tail Trail #71 and Chukar Butte Trail #74 without any road travel.
