Overview
This trek, from the tourist town of Kala Nera, takes you up the hillslope on paths and kalderimi (old cobble paths) to the small village of Milies. There, you'll find a small rail station for the historic train. The trail is now a tourist attraction and you'll follow the railway most of the way back to the coast.
Description
From Kala Nera, head out on a small path off of EO-34. The trail alternates between and earth path and an old cobbled path (kalderimi). Near the top, you'll cross a stream via a concrete bridge and wind up the hillslope to reach Milies. The town is rather quaint and worth a tour. When finished exploring, head back the way you came to reach the train station.
From here you'll follow the railway a couple of miles as you head back down toward the coast. This section starts with a high metal bridge that you must cross. Just on the other side of the bridge, is a path that leads to an old (now closed) church. As you navigate down, you'll wind through olive groves, under an old archway and a spring water-fed drinking fountain.
Near the end of the hike, you'll diverge from the tracks and follow a series of steep paths and Kalderimi through olive groves and dispersed houses. The trail ends in a nice olive grove, just west of the start of the hike.
