Dogs Off-leash
Description
The pond is not that large, but the area is really pretty. This area is well traveled, particularly in the summer when the campground on the north side of the pond is frequently booked. The north has a parking area and restroom facilities.
This particular hike approaches the pond from the south along a stream that cuts through a canyon rich with Hemlocks, moss, and ferns. It does have a the feeling of a scaled-down, northwestern forest. The trail is etched along the stream and crosses over to the other side at one point. If there is a recent rain, it is not easy to cross. You don't have to cross, there are a couple of trail options available.
Around the pond, there are many, many really charming streams and groves of a various trees. There are also many trails which divert from main blazes. The
Narragansett Trail shares part of the system, as well as, trails which leads off to Hidden Lake, Beech Pond, and further on to Arcadia.
Flora & Fauna
This area has one of the best stands of Hemlock in the area.
