“The trail is generally smooth, packed dirt with several small bridges crossing drainages.
”
MD40 begins at an abandoned picnic shelter on a point ridge just above the road to the main sports field complex at Little Creek. Several other trails intersect here, including Rocky Ridge Trail and BBQ.
From the shelter, take the left-most trail, which will wind up the hill a bit sort of parallel to Rocky Ridge Trail and then will veer left, following the contour of the hill. It will drop off the hill down to the road and turn back on itself. From here, the trail generally heads uphill with several short steeper sections to climb. MD40 ends close to where it started, but a bit further downhill from the shelter.
