Description
During this section, the trail follows Highway 78 for several miles. The trail crosses the Snake River via a highway bridge. On either end of the bridge, there are places to easily access the Snake River, which can provide a cool swim during the heat of the day.
The trail continues along the highway after the Snake River, and enters into large fields of various crops. Adventurers will then enter Hammett, a small town of about 500 people. This is the first sign of real civilization in nearly 90 miles along the ICT.
Hammett has a couple stores, a post office, and a cafe, in case you want to resupply or relax and enjoy a meal. For thru-hikers, this is an important resupply town, since it has one of the only post offices that is along the actual trail.
After Hammett, the trail continues along paved roads, crossing Interstate 84, and ascending a plateau above the Snake River. After a good climb, the route levels out and crosses the historic Oregon Trail.
