There's limited parking on Halligan Avenue.
This trail starts off Halligan Avenue at a kiosk and trailhead sign. Parking is limited to about 3 cars facing downhill on Halligan Avenue. As you begin to ascend, you'll pass by an assortment of trees that are labeled with identification tags and a brief description. In a short distance, you'll arrive at a junction where you can either stay straight or turn right.
Following the white blaze straight will keep you on the main path, while following the orange blaze will avoid one of the steep sections. The trail passes beneath the powerlines, arrives at an old road, and turns right. In a ways, there'll be a red arrow telling you to turn left off the old road grade. The trail climbs moderately to the summit of Bald Mountain
Here, at the summit, you'll find a stone fire tower that was built back in 1909. You can ascend the spiral staircase, but only to the top floor of the stone tower. The ranger shack (on top) is closed to the public; it appears as though it's still in use, though.
