The Cherokee State Wildlife Area - Lone Pine Unit is open for recreational use starting May 2 and ending August 31 each year. It is only open for hunting and fishing at other times of the year.

Description

From the parking lot, a two-track dirt road leads to the right. Following this road results in a very nice walk, with several large stream crossings. There is no way over the stream, so prepare to get your feet wet.

Alternatively, a singletrack trail leads straight out of the parking lot and up the hill. This route takes one along the ridges and if done as an out-and-back, does not require any stream crossings.

These two paths converge a couple of miles in, so that they can be combined for a loop, if desired.

This is rattlesnake country, so keep an eye out. Also, there is no shade, so prepare for the sun.
