Trail #9b is a very short trail that is combined with other trails to form a complete hike, such as the Valley of Five Lakes hike.

Trail #9b starts at a trail junction with Valley of the Five Lakes Trail and Trail #9a. This trail junction is 0.7 miles from the parking area and the trailhead of Valley of the Five Lakes Trail and Trail #9a. Trail #9b runs through the fir forest and after 0.3 miles it reaches the southeast corner of beautiful turquoise and blue-green First Lake. A short 0.1 miles later Trail #9b ends at another trail junction with Trail #9a.
