Description
Old Quarry Trail begins on the boardwalk with excellent views of the lake and western sky. The trail passes across the footbridge in the backwater of the lake, crosses the main road and begins a steep incline before gradually becoming level. Along the trail, hikers will come to a natural limestone outcropping that has been quarried. The history is unknown, but perhaps an early resident of the area used the rocks for building materials. Past the quarry, the trail exits the woods into an open field that was once farmland. The land is in transition with many new plants and trees growing since farming ended in the 1980s. A spur trail and White Connector 3 (
WC3) lead to the special-use area along the edge of the open field and through a stand of Scotch and shortleaf pine trees planted in the 1950s. White Connector 1 (WC1) provides a connection to additional park trails.
