Almost all of this trail is in the Mount Evans Wilderness. Wilderness rules apply. Summit Lake trailhead access is from the Mount Evans highway which is generally open to Summit Lake Memorial Day through the end of Septmber. Trailhead parking is on Denver Mountain Parks property, which charges a fee.

Description

This trail is the primary hiking trail to the summit of Mt. Evans.

From Summit Lake the trail climbs steadily to the summit of Mt. Spalding, From there, the trail descends to a saddle, then climbs the west ridge of Mount Evans to a point just below the summit, where it joins the Mount Evans National Recreation Trail.
