Family Friendly This quick and generally flat trail is fairly easy to navigate for all.

Description

The trail begins at a dirt parking lot about a quarter mile off highway 180. The first mile follows a gradually inclined, wide path among juniper and piñon. Occasional signs mark the correct path. You then scale a six foot wooden ladder and follow a dry stream bed alongside a hill of dark volcanic mineral crystals into the amphitheater of the cinder cone, surrounded by hoodoos. Return by the same path.

When you get to the wooden ladder, you got to the best part! It is like walking thru some sort of worm hole that takes you to another planet. Super cool landscape. Before this end part it is okay, but mostly boring. The end is amazing and 100% worth it!

Saw a bull very close up! Watch for them in the wooded beginning of the hike. The best part is the rock climbing that even beginners could do. 1.4mi
