Need to Know

This trail does not end at a vista or overlook, it ends in a mature forest along Hugo Ridge.

If you are hiking or running during hunting season please wear blaze orange as hunting is allowed on the property on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

Apply sunscreen and bring extra water as this trail is not completely shaded by the forest canopy.

Description

This is a wonderful hike or trail run through various forest types. Starting from the parking lot visitors will hike through a damp and cool forest. After crossing the 1000 Road Loop Trail a climb through a dry hot area begins relief comes soon as you reenter a mature forest and continue under canopy cover to the top where you'll find a bench and a trail register. Though the name would suggest a beautiful vista, the end of the trail ends in a mature forest and trees block any views there may have once been.

Flora & Fauna

This trail moves through a variety of forest types from damp and cool to dry and hot. Visitors of this trail will see Alder trees, Vine Maple, Cottonwood, Big Leaf Maple, Douglas Fir, and Western Hemlock along the climb. The forest floor will be covered in Western Sword Fern and Salal in the cooler forest types and Blueberry, and Blackberry in the more unforgiving areas. Depending on the time of your visit you may be treated to native wildflowers such as Starflower, Western Trillium, Columbia Lily, Spotted Coralroot, and Calypso Orchid.
