Description

If you don't want to take the Skyline Gondola, this is your way up. The track starts to the left of the gondola base station. Head up the stairs then turn left but stay right. The rock wall should be to your left otherwise you are following Hammy's Track. Most of the way up is very steep and not very scenic. Do not expect any good views of Lake Wakatipu or Queenstown.

The first third of a mile has a few sculpted chairs along the track that are made out of big trunks. The hiking track crosses a cycling track a number of times, so be careful not to take the wrong one. After half a mile stay mostly right. If you reach a dirt road, you have gone too far. The rest of the track is fairly uneventful. You reach the Skyline Road at 1.1 miles. Take the dirt road to get all the way up to the gondola and the tracks that lead further into Ben Lomond Scenic Reserve.

A few muddy spots and some slippery roots. Carried our 3 year old son on my shoulders and my partner had our 8 month old in the baby carrier.
