“An interesting hike with abundant representations of the regional geology and flora.”— Alan Coles
Family Friendly A short and interesting trail with flora and geology.
The trail starts in a well shaded canopy of oaks and Jeffrey pines and reaches the loop junction. The left fork rises through a thick forest with many large boulders the size of trucks indicating substantial sliding that created the slope.
The trail ascends a broad ridge, and the forest gives way to an open field of native grasses, pinyon trees, and yuccas that are more commonly found on the northern slopes of the range. In spring there can be nice wildflowers here. The trail reaches a high point then drops back down and re-enters the forest back to the fork. Take your time!
