CREW Marsh Trails are open one hour before sunrise to one hour after sunset.
Description
The Corkscrew Regional Ecosystem Watershed (CREW) Pine Flatwoods Trail traverses through pine and palm scrubland. It starts at the junction with
Trailhead Connector and makes a loop back to this point. It is a very flat trail with few obstructions. The trail skirts alongside a sawgrass marsh, so be prepared for some mud (in the winter months) and standing water (in the summer months).
Flora & Fauna
Part of the Great Florida Birding and Wildlife Trail, The CREW Marsh Trails often see warblers, owls, woodpeckers, hawks, and flycatchers. In the spring, keep your eyes peeled for swallow-tailed kites. Pine Flatwoods is full of the trail's namesake pines as well as palm scrub. Expect very low undergrowth (under ten feet tall) for the majority of the loop. This is an active black bear and panther area, so many trail cameras are out to record their passing. Deer and small mammal tracks can be found in the mud along the east and south portions of the loop.
