Description
This is a gravel road/doubletrack high up in the Alps among stunning scenery. The route starts near the Col du Mont Cenis (pass) from the main D1006 road. From the road, you'll drop about 75 m (250 ft) down to the level of the beautiful Lac do Mont Cenis. The route follows the western edge of the lake for 2 km (1.2 mi). The route then heads up the valley between Mont Cenis (3,163 m/10,377 ft) and Pointe Droset (2,917 m/9,570 ft).
You'll reach a saddle between the two mountains overlooking the Ruisseau d'Ambin (river). There are several abandoned stone buildings in various states of decay at this saddle. Here the doubletrack makes a turn up the valley at roughly constant elevation. After 2 km (1.2 mi), it ends abruptly at the Ruisseau de Savine, a tributary to the Ruisseau d'Amblin.
The whole route is above the tree line and at high altitude, so bring appropriate sun protection.
