Description
The yellow-blazed main loop of the Ellett Valley Nature Trail is accessed from a small parking lot on the south side of Jennelle Road.
From the information board, ascend the stair-stepped slope, climbing up to the main loop. Traveling around the loop in a clockwise fashion has shorter climbs interspersed with flat stretches and a long steady downhill to finish it up. Going counter-clockwise gives a steady couple hundred foot ascent to train on.
As you proceed around the loop, there are many interpretive signs to acquaint you with the natural area. There are a few other social trails in the area, so look out for the yellow blazes to stay on trail and not enter private property or areas where hunting is legal.
This is a lightly-used gem protecting a swath of forest. Be sure to treat it with respect and respect surrounding landowners. There is no hunting allowed in Ellett Valley Nature Park, but the area to the west of the trail has multiple tree-stands, so dress in bright colors (including your dogs) during hunting season (generally October through January).
