A tough but rewarding bit of trail. Many steeps and some technical sections, but also great views!

Description

This trail is a part of the Whiskey Off Road's 30 and 50 courses. It has some long, steep climbs, many waterbar drops, loose rock, but also many fun bits. The trail passes through Ponderosa Pine and Gambrel Oak. There are a few open sections as well.

The trail starts off from the trailhead on Copper Basin Road and parallels Aspen Creek for a bit before entering a mellow climb. There is a very short stretch of doubletrack and a sign that will direct you to go right to stay on Trail #48. The fun begins here with steep climbs and descents with many waterbars. If you look close there are a couple bypasses (unsanctioned) on the right that allow avoiding some of the descents/climbs.

Nearing the south end of the trail is a steep and eroded descent. After this descent, Trail #48 "Ts" into East Copper Trail #260. You can either continue down and south on Trail #260 (also part of the Whiskey course) or make a hard right and climb back up on 260 where it meets Mt. Francis Rd.

This trail can be done in either direction. The description assumes you'll be climbing (north to south, but some think it's more fun south to north. In which case it can be accessed from Mt. Francis Road and Trail #260.

Good trail conditions, shaded for the first mile or so, and should have water running through creek post-monsoon season. 3.5mi
