Description

To get to this trail you'll have to take the Turkey Creek Trail south from Gore Store Road for four miles or park at the Kirby Nature Trail and take that trail north. The Sandhill Loop trail is much dryer and more open than either the Turkey Creek Trail or the Kirby Nature Trail - with fewer mosquitoes as well. The trail follows a ~4 foot wide sandy path that meanders through tall lodgepole pines. A relatively recent burn on the eastern side of the loop keeps things open and offers more chances to look around. The difference between this trail and other trails in the Big Thicket National Preserve is fairly stark.
