Description

The Lower Trail starts from up high, near the entrance to the Woodhall estate portion of the Rockefeller State Park Preserve. The trail winds down the hill on a series of curves that act as a gentler form of switchback. The large meadow you pass through is home to a herd of sheep that keep the lawn under control. Near the Hudson River, the Lower Trail reaches its namesake lower level and turns north to follow the river. There are a few nice viewpoints with benches that let you take your time on this trail. At the northern end of the park, the trail ends at the Rockwood Hall Brook Trail.

Even when it's a bit hazy on hot humid days, you can still enjoy nice views of the Hudson from the Lower Trail.
