Description

The white-blazed Trillium Trail can be traversed in its entirety in either direction and can be accessed from the Pandapas Pond Day Use Area via the orange-blazed Poverty Creek Trail or from Forest Service Road 708 (labeled 2600 at its intersection with Highway 460). If driving in via FS Road 708, the southwestern trailhead of the Trillium Trail is off of the first side road to the right (gated) if driving in from Hwy 460.

Hiking from southwest to northeast is generally uphill with the majority of the climb coming at the northeastern end of the trail. There are multiple small creek crossings to leap over and a stretch in the pines to enjoy with the soft needles underfoot.

As you progress to the northeast, eventually the trail becomes more technical with some relatively easy rock gardens to navigate through and shortly before the junction with the Skullcap Trail is a sustained uphill to test out your lungs. The trail Ts into the blue-blazed Skullcap Trail. Take the right to head south and back to FS Rd 708 or go left to take the Skullcap Trail towards the white-blazed Prickly Pear Trail or yellow-blazed Queen Anne Trail.

This is a shared trail with mountain bikers and horses. Keep a heads up for mountain bikers speeding downhill from north to south. When encountering a horse, it is proper etiquette to step off the trail to the downhill side and stop until the horse has passed.

Also, be sure to wear bright colors during hunting season (October 1st through the first week of January). And be friendly; say "hi" to other folks out enjoying the forest!

And check out the Poverty Creek Trail Coalition on Facebook to see about opportunities to give back and do some trail service!
