Family Friendly
The trail is wide and generally flat, leading to a dramatic natural arch sure to wow any visitor.
High-clearance vehicles can drive closer to the arch, or you can park at the lot at the gate.
Description
This is a one mile trail following an existing jeep trail to Moonshine Arch, an 85 foot long natural sandstone arch with a 40 foot tall window. It is a fairly easy, family friendly hike. You can access the trail from an easily traveled dirt road to the gate. ATVs or high-clearance 4WD vehicles could go further on the trail to an upper trailhead.
To access the trail heading north from Vernal, drive on Hwy 191. When you pass the entrance to Steinaker State Park on your left, continue to travel on 191 for just under a mile to a curve in the road. In about the middle of the curve you'll see a dirt/gravel road off to the left. Follow that road until you see a smooth dirt road off to the left (there is a sign there for the arch) and then travel that road to the gate. The parking lot at the gate is usually full of mini vans and cars.
