Description

This is a relatively easy trail leading to Oklahoma's high point. The first 2.5 miles is mostly flat, as the trail makes it's way from the parking area along the base of the mesa. Around mile 2.5, the trail switchbacks up the side of the mesa for the next half mile. There is an excellent view to the north at mile 3. Once on top of the mesa, the trail is basically flat again. Continue to follow the trail for another mile until you reach the large granite monument designating the high point.

This trail is wide and well marked, making it easy to follow. Benches are placed at each mile marker. While this is a relatively easy trail, it does lack shade. The summer months can be brutally hot. Take plenty of water, sunscreen, and a hat.

The trailhead has a restroom, register, and information board. Camping is not allowed here. Black Mesa State Park is located about 25 minutes from here and has paid campsites available.

Flora & Fauna

This area of the state is home to 31 rare species of plants and animals because it is the transition zone between the Rocky Mountains and the Great Plains.
