Family Friendly An easy trail that will immerse kids in an undisturbed natural setting.

Overview

Once part of the Paul and Rose Zona farm, this 92 acre sanctuary was donated to Porter County by the Zona family in 1999. Located in the glacial moraine from the last ice age, the sanctuary has rolling hills and ravines.

Need to Know

No access fee. Open daily from dawn to dusk. Pets permitted on a leash (6' or shorter). No bicycles or motorized vehicles. Year round porta-potty. No potable water source.

Description

The trail winds though mature, undisturbed woodlands. It is rare to see anyone else on the trail. There are several benches and picnic tables to sit and enjoy the solitude.

From the parking lot, head right onto the Wildness Walk and out onto Rosie's Ravine Walk. This is a really nice trail through undisturbed mature woodlands that ends at a meandering stream. After a peaceful out and back on Rosie's Ravine, take right onto the second half of Wildness Walk.

From this loop, continue onto Wildflower Walk which is a nice trail trough the woods with great spring wildflowers. After finishing up your hike, take a lunch and sit at the picnic table.
