Family Friendly While the whole trail may be a bit much for younger kids, taking this route partway is scenic and pleasant.

Description

This blue-blazed trail stretches gradually between Brown Mountain Trail and Big Run Portal Trail. With around 1000' of elevation change over the course of nearly three miles, this makes for a moderate descent or climb.

Be ready for one steep section, less than three-tenths of a mile from the Brown Mountain Trail junction.

Went bottom to top. Nice steady climb from valley to ridge.

The picture is deceptive - there's no rocky outcrop on this trail. It's just a descent along a stream.
