Description
The Alta Meadow Trail is a scenic route in Sequoia National Park that branches off from the
Alta Trail and leads to a beautiful alpine meadow, south of Alta Peak, with expansive views of the Great Western Divide. The trail passes through mixed conifer forests, open granite slopes, and seasonal wildflower displays before reaching the meadow. Alta Meadow is a quiet spot compared to nearby destinations, offering solitude, stunning mountain vistas, and a chance to spot wildlife such as deer and marmots. The trail is moderately challenging due to elevation gain but is a rewarding destination for hikers looking for a peaceful backcountry experience.
Flora & Fauna
The Alta Meadow Trail passes through diverse ecosystems, featuring dense forests of pine, fir, and juniper, as well as open alpine meadows. Wildlife commonly spotted includes mule deer, black bears, and various bird species such as mountain bluebirds and hawks. The area is rich in wildflowers during the warmer months, with species like lupine, columbine, and Indian paintbrush blooming in the meadows.
