Description

This trail starts off from the Inside North Fork Road just north of the turnoff for Bowman Lake Road. The trail crosses meadows and a mix of burned and unburned forest as it works its way up Akokala Creek. A short distance into the trail, and you're out in the old burned area until the trail joins up with the Akokala Lake trail. One seasonal creek ford will get your feet wet in the spring and early summer. While the trail parallels the creek, it spends little time right along the creek.

This trail is sparsely maintained by the National Park Service and is in a burned area, so expect to encounter a lot of downfall. It's also one of the earlier trails to open in the spring in the North Fork area of Glacier National Park.

Flora & Fauna

Open forest flowers pop in the springtime including impressive displays of Indian Paintbrush. Deer and bear frequent the area and elusive elk and wolves may be occasionally spotted. The birding is also great.
