Usually, the North Rim is only open mid-May through mid-October because of all the snow it gets.

Description

This easy, hard packed trail connects the Grand Canyon Lodge with the North Kaibab Trailhead. It is well signed and lined in most places by huge rocks making it nearly impossible to lose the route. This is a multi-use trail so expect to see hikers, bikers, dogs and horses.

Pick up this path on the east side of the Grand Canyon Lodge and parking lot. Some brief views down over the rim are available here. Cross the entrance road and follow a service road until signs lead you to the nicer parts of the Bridle Path. This well-constructed route goes through some pleasant forest before coming to a "Y" intersection. The left (west) fork is a shortcut to the campground/market access road, the right (east) fork continues on the Bridle Trail. There are picnic tables scattered around nearby.

Cross the campground access road and continue through a more openly treed area. Cross the entrance road and descend a hill to the North Kaibab Trailhead. Here you'll find a drinking water station, restrooms and very limited parking.
