Description

Montezuma Well is a massive collapsed limestone sinkhole. The springs at the bottom of the sinkhole feed a large pond which supports a unique aquatic habitat in this dry landscape with organisms that are found nowhere else on Earth. Spur trails off the loop trail allow for exploration of the inside of the well and the outlet of the well along Beaver Creek.

There are archaeological sites within Montezuma Well related to the Sinagua culture that built nearby Montezuma Castle. Please treat this site as a museum and leave any artifacts in place to preserve its scientific and archaeological integrity.

Short Walk: 0.1 miles on well-marked dirt trail.

Family Friendly: Fascinating geologic feature on an easily accessed loop trail.
