Description

Beach House Blowout is an incredible example of the power of the wind. A blowout occurs when the wind moves sand inland faster than marram grass and other vegetation can stabilize the dune. Trail 9 hugs the back of the blowout along a narrow sand ridge high above Lake Michigan. The views are incredible.

Short Hike: From the Nature Center parking lot, the blowout can be reached via Trail 9. The hike directly to the blowout is a little under a mile. It is recommended to do the entire 3.6 mile trail to get the full experience.

Family Friendly: Kids will love the scramble up the blowout and the incredible views of the lake.

Bugs are extremely bad in the wooded areas and we ended up with ticks on us. Wear bug spray for sure.

Muddy - Extremely overgrown which led to ticks. Luckily we saw them quick. The bridge and boardwalk over the marsh is still wet and muddy from recent rains. Best to avoid that part of the trail.
