Description

Maligne Canyon, near Jasper townsite, is a very popular spot to visit. At 160 feet deep in its deepest place, Maligne Canyon is one of the deepest canyons in Jasper National Park.

Here, the Maligne River runs through a canyon - Maligne Canyon, for about a mile. While in the canyon, the river also drops over waterfalls, into beautiful pools. The canyon is very narrow in places, so narrow that there is an amazing hanging rock to see. Also there are bridges over the canyon to get great views of the "action".

Maligne Canyon Trail runs next to the river, on the canyon rim, at its edge. It is well fenced to prevent accidents. One can get great closeup views of the waterfalls and river in the canyon, along this trail. Several placards along it provide all sorts of interesting information.

Short Walk: The closest parking area is the large main parking area about 3.5 miles down Maligne Road from Highway 16. This parking area is at the top of Maligne Canyon. There are also smaller parking areas along Maligne Road before the large main parking area, and they have easy access to Maligne Canyon Trail that one can hike to see the canyon.
