Features Views

Family Friendly Just a short walk to a really spectacular view with some exciting wave action. The cliff edge is fenced-off for safety.

Need to Know

Restrooms are further south at Oswald West State Park trailhead.

Description

The trail is narrow and muddy and descends sharply into the coastal meadow from the dirt parking lot beside the highway. Hike through the chest-high sea of salal and pass the first off-shoot trail, which leads to a different overlook.

Continue south until the 2nd off-shoot trail and turn left at the sign. Head slightly uphill into the trees and you'll quickly reach the top of the hill and get a fantastic view west over the ocean. There is a bench and the cliff is fenced off to prevent falls (of which there have been several fatal accidents from people climbing over the fence).

To the right is the Devil's Cauldron, where the waves send water splashing high up the cliffs and churning in the small inlet below. A great hike for sunset, with just a short walk back to the car.
