Overview

Great view of the Econ River from multiple perspectives.

Need to Know

No restrooms, you may hear gunshots in the distance at a local sportsmans club.

Watch the roots, almost always a little mud. Be careful of the not-always courteous mountain bikers.

Description

Started off under the Snow Hill Road Bridge—this is a free parking and a place where canoe and kayaks take out. Hike along the south side of the river over many small hills, lots of roots and an occasional muddy hole.

Need to keep your eyes open—it's hard to tell the difference between roots and snakes sometimes. Lots of gators on the river bank. Hike across the two bridges on the Flagler Trail, then take an immediate left on to the north river bank, across three well-made foot bridges until Barr Street Trailhead. Then turn around and head back.

Flora & Fauna

Lots of palms, occasional snakes and deer, frequent gators.

History & Background

The Flagler Trail was an old railroad route which headed to the east coast to join the famous Flagler rail route along the Florida east coast. No more tracks but plenty of old bridge pilings. The Flagler Trail is also part of the Florida Trail.
