This is a nice valley trail that builds slowly as the mountains grow around you. The trail heads up a rustic dirt road for the first 3.5 miles. As the road peters out, the trail continues along the river.

From there, the trail eases along until a final moraine at the edge of the glacial lake.

Note: In 2019, a early warning avalanche system was installed to warn Huaraz
