Need to Know

This trail is probably not a good idea for those afraid of heights: it sometimes veers close to the edge, and while the view is stunning, you're also on top of a cliff.

Description

Start off by parking at the Old Woman Cove location, then cross ON-17 to reach the official trailhead. The trail is relatively flat, though very rocky, until about the 0.82-mile mark. At this point, the trail begins ascending at a steeper grade. As you progress, the terrain begins to change from rocks to roots, though both are found in equal abundance. You'll finally reach the top of the long hill around 1.3 miles.

Soon, you'll find a few clearings that offer amazing views of seemingly infinite trees—probably the highlight of this hike. Around 2.2 miles, the steep descent begins, arguably even more treacherous than the previous climb. Finally, after a particularly sharp hill, you'll suddenly come upon ON-17 once again, marking the end of steep slopes. From here, the trail follows along its general vicinity back to its starting point.
